40th Bday = 40 miles with Friends & Family!

In trying to decide what to do to celebrate making it to the 40th year of my life I didn't want to do a traditional party. I don't really like being indoors and not a huge fan of groups of people or "mingling". I do enjoy running and being outdoors. Inspired by the fact that I live right now right next to a lake that has a loop around it that is a little over one mile long and a nice gazebo that I thought I create into a little "aid station"/hang out area. I invited some good friends and family to join more to run, or walk, a lap, or two, or more!

My sister Heidi, recovering from her 100 mile race last weekend, came out for several laps, bringing my nephews who also joined for a few walking laps! Several other friends came out and joined as well, it turned out to be such an amazing day and I am so full of gratitude for the amazing people in my life that love and support me, even in my craziness!

My partner Sarah was visiting for the weekend and was quite a trooper, running with me off an on and providing supplies and most importantly taking care of Heidi's dog Kya! She also hung on with me for the last several laps when it became VERY hot, topping out at 97 degrees by the time I was finishing! Good heat training! After several hours, lots of applesauce (my new favorite fuel), water, ice, snacks, chatting and quality time with friends and family, I finished my 40 miles! It was a bit of a mental challenge to run so many one mile laps as typically I love to adventure in the mountains for long runs if possible but I actually felt great and had so much fun and got in a nice long run!

I have been a fairly solitary runner, and really enjoy the time alone, on my feet, in nature. But this helped open my eyes that running and walking with others might not be such a bad idea from time to time. Thank you to all who came out and I'm confident that my 40's are going to be the best decade yet! Also, now I'm officially in the "Masters" division at most races
