When 26.2 miles is just another weekend training run

A funny thing happened this past Saturday. I completed my long Saturday morning run of 26.2 miles and after it uploaded to Strava (FaceBook for people that exercise a lot) I saw that my older sister that I actually live with right now had completed a 26.5 mile run that morning. Funniest part was neither one of us had planned to run a Marathon distance training run and hadn't discussed it and we were both done by 11am. I am a huge believer that mindset and how I approach things that are difficult have more to do with my sucess in any area of life than innate talent. For example, I have never been a very strong long distance runner. I always hated "long runs" when I had to do them in high school and college as a part of training for basketball and soccer. For me a long run was pretty much anything over one mile. Then I turned 37. Was making a lot of life changes and decided I wanted to train to run a marathon. Before running my first marathon I had decided that my "real" goal was to run a 100 mile ultra marathon. I have changed A LOT over the years but one thing has remained fairly constant and that is a "go big or go home" mentality. At least these days I'm able to chanell that into something positive and not just feeding an unhealthy addiction. I'm grateful every day to be alive, to be able to run, and to have a sister that's even crazier than I am (at least when it comes to running...)!
